XBeach – Storm event modelling (basic)

The devastating effects of hurricanes on low-lying sandy coasts have pointed at an urgent need to be able to assess the vulnerability of coastal areas and (re-) design coastal protection for future events and to evaluate the performance of existing coastal protection projects compared to ‘do-nothing’ scenarios. The XBeach simulation software has been designed to simulate morphological changes during hurricanes and other storm events.

This one-day XBeach Basic Course will involve presentations discussing XBeach model formulations, physical background of model concepts and applications (examples). Participants will engage in a hands-on session involving model setup, running XBeach and analyzing output.
