XBeach (xbeach.org) is open-source software developed jointly by Deltares, UNESCO-IHE and TU Delft. It can compute the hydrodynamics and morphological change on sandy, gravel, coral and urbanized coasts under storm and extreme conditions. On this first day of the XBeach course programme, we will demonstrate the newest functionality and developments.
Particular attention will be given to:
- the different modes of XBeach (stationary, surfbeat, nonhydrostatic),
- physical processes of wave motion on gravel coasts,
- ship-induced waves,
- wave runup on coral reef-line beaches,
- wave attenuation of vegetation and erosion on sandy shores, as well as
- numerical advances and tips and tricks.
This expert course assumes basic knowledge of XBeach.
There will be a second XBeach course on Tuesday 1 November: XBeach and Earth Observation – Advanced course: Assessment of Nature-based Flood defenses.
